What are the common problems with slurry pumps?

1. Insufficient Flow / No Priming (No Slurry Delivery)
Common Causes: Clogging ofimpeller/ pipeline, impeller wear; air leakage through packing gland; mismatched motor speed or belt slippage; excessive pump installation elevation, excessive suction lift; trapped air insidepump casing, air leakage in suction pipe; severe leakage in discharge pipeline.
Troubleshooting: Clean impeller and pipeline; replace impeller if wear is severe; compress packing to eliminate air leakage; restore rated speed, adjust belt tension and remove oil contamination from belt; lower pump installation elevation, shorten pipeline or adjust pipe routing; vent all trapped air from pump before startup, inspect and seal leaking points, repair discharge leakage.
2.Excessive Vibration and Noise
Common Causes: Non-uniform slurry density; improper leveling of pump; cavitation-induced impeller unbalance; uneven air intake into suction pipe; excessive bearing clearance, bearing damage; misalignment between pump shaft and motor shaft; impeller unbalance.
Troubleshooting: Agitate medium with high-pressure air before startup; no further action required if vibration subsides after startup; inspect and adjustpumpleveling; reduce installation elevation, throttle discharge valve to reduce inlet resistance; optimize feeding condition to ensure uniform air intake; replace damaged bearing promptly, adjust shaft alignment, correct impeller balance.
3. Seal / Packing Leakage (Slurry Leakage)
Common Causes: Misalignment betweenshaftandpacking box; wear of sealing water ring, clogging of sealing water line; wear and aging of packing / mechanical seal; shaft sleeve wear; insufficient shaft seal water pressure.
Troubleshooting: Inspect and adjust installation alignment; replace worn sealing water ring, clear clogged sealing water line and maintain sealing water cleanliness; replace aged/worn packing or mechanical seal; replace worn shaft sleeve; replenish shaft seal water or adjustshaft sealwater pressure.
